What is Remote Support?
Remote support is a new service that allows FastFix Computer Services' Engineers to access your computer directly over the Internet. It gives them the same view of your computer screen as you have and allows them to directly control your PC as if they were actually sat in front of it! This allows them to look for and resolve various problems that might otherwise require a home visit.
What kinds of problems can you solve with remote support?
Obviously, we can't fix everything remotely but the service is ideal for solving many common software related problems. These might include:
- Email send and recieve problems
- Setting up new email accounts
- Installing / uninstalling software
- Installing drivers for new hardware
- Web page display problems
- Programs not working correctly
- Certain windows start-up problems
How does it work?
We use a special piece of software installed on a web server, that is, a computer that is permanantly connected to the internet. The software allows both our computer and your computer to connect to the server at the same time, and creates a secure pathway that allows us to access, view and control your PC using our screen, keyboard and mouse instead of yours.
Is it safe? Can anybody view or control my PC at any time?
Our remote support system is very, very safe. The connection uses something called '256 bit Encryption' to turn the information that is being transfered between our PC and yours into a secure code. This means that even if somebody intercepted the information being sent between our computer and yours, they wouldn't be able to decipher it to gain access to your personal files and information. Incidentally, most online banks and credit card payment systems only use 128 bit Encryption, ours is twice as strong!
Furthermore, we can only control your PC remotely when YOU allow us to. If you don't grant us permission to access your computer when asked, there's no way we can possibly get in! Also, you are still in control of your PC at all times during the remote support session. You can still use your mouse and keyboard and your input has precedence over ours so if you want to end the remote support session at any time, you can! Please feel free to call us first if you have any further concerns regarding the security and privacy of our remote support system.
How much does it cost?
Remote Support costs £1.50 per minute charged directly to your telephone bill. Please note that calls from mobile phones may incur a higher charge depending upon your network provider.
What do I need to get remote support?
You need a computer with either Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP and a working broadband internet connection to get remote support. Unfortunately, we can't offer remote support to people using dial-up internet due to the speed restraints of this kind of connection.
How do I get remote support?
Simply call 0906 505 2001, Monday to Friday between 10am and 6pm and speak to one of Engineers. He'll talk you through a few simple instructions to establish the remote connection, then just sit back and watch while we do the rest!
